Pedroia wins July AL Player of the Month
Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was named the American League Player of the Month for July. MLB made the announcement on August 3 via the MLB Network.
The 2007 Rookie of the Year and 2008 AL MVP received the selection for the first time in his career. The Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez took home the honors in June and their center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury was one of four other players receiving votes behind Pedroia for this past month. Pedroia and Ellsbury led Boston to an astonishing 20-6 record for the month of July.
On June 30 Pedroia homered to go 1-for-5 and to give him a hit in back-to-back games after his 11-game hitting streak was snapped. He compiled a .340 average in June to raise his season average to .272. Pedroia continued to record a hit in each game until July 29, giving him a 25-game hitting streak. The July 29 contest is his only hitless game to date, since the 25-game streak began. Since that night he has hit in five straight games.

Carl Crawford is now hitting expectations

Red Sox fan I am well aware of the standard they set for left fielders. Jim
Rice and Manny Ramirez
continued the Hall of Fame caliber play in front of the left field wall. Red
Sox fans hoped the next in line would be Carl Crawford, who was
signed by Boston
this offseason. So far he hasn’t even lived up to what we would have expected
from Troy O’Leary. Crawford’s performance in April was a disappointment.
Putting last month behind him and beginning an 11-game home
stand, Crawford heated up.He hit a walk-off single on May 2 and doubled for
another game-winner on May 9 to cap the home stand. He finished the home
stretch with a .333 batting average.
