Red Sox hope to play despite rain and announce makeup of Yankee rainout

The Boston Red Sox are set to take on the Oakland Athletics in the second game of a three-game series. The game is still on despite a constant rain throughout the day in the Boston area.

Felix Doubront will be the starting pitcher for the Red Sox and manager Bobby Valentine will send out his standard lineup against a right-handed pitcher. The only notable exception to the lineup, which will face Jarrod Parker of the A’s, is the absence of Kevin Youkilis. Nick Punto will continue to play third base while Youkilis rests his sore lower-left back. Prior to the game, a roster move was to  made to add infield depth. Jose Iglesias was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket. Iglesias will likely be in Boston for a short stint, unless there is a need for Youkilis to go on the disabled list.

The only rain out to date in the 2012 season was the final contest of a three-game series against the New York Yankees. The postponed game, which was originally scheduled for the night of Sunday, April 22, will be made up on Saturday, July 7 at 12:35pm.  It will be the first game of a split doubleheader at Fenway Park with the second scheduled for 7:15 pm.
